Can tourists go to Tiwi Islands?

Tourists are able to visit Tiwi Islands, but unless travelling on a guided tour like AAT Kings, you need to apply for a permit from the Tiwi Land Council. This takes a minimum of 30 working days to process. However, if you visit the island with a guided tour, you do not need to apply for a permit and will be issued a day pass. So take the stress out of planning, and take advantage of the AAT Kings guided day tour of the Tiwi Islands. The expertly curated itinerary will let you get the most out of your journey and show off everything the islands have to offer.

How much does it cost to go to Tiwi Islands?

A single adult ferry ticket to the Tiwi Islands will cost AUD $120, and a permit to be able to travel the island outside of community boundaries costs AUD $100. Alternatively, a guided Tiwi Island day tour is only AUD $375 and will reveal scenes seldom seen by many outsiders. The tour takes you to Bathurst Island aboard the Tiwi Mantawi ferry before meeting with a local guide to visit the Early Mission Precinct, see Tiwi weaving, painting, and totem dances before having local billy tea and damper for morning tea and visiting the Tiwi arts and crafts centre.
