Every now and again we receive guest feedback that leaves us feeling warm and fuzzy. The below letter is so heart-warming we couldn’t resist sharing it with you (which goes to show that what happens on tour doesn’t always stay on tour):
Dear Reservations,
My fiancé, Andrew and I met on the Blue Mountains and Cave Tour on 5 September 2013. We fell in love and got engaged. We are hoping it’s possible to get this message to our tour guide and driver Henry. Not only was he an excellent guide but we both want to give him our gratitude for helping us get together.
Dear Henry,
Andy and I were both solo travellers on your tour (I’m from California and he is from England). I boarded the bus at the main location in Sydney. Once we got to the Blue Mountains, you announced we had one more passenger to pick up from the hostel in Katoomba. As soon as I saw Andy from my bus window I knew I had to do something, but he was so shy! I later found out that you gave Andy a little encouragement to talk to me – thank you! When we arrived at the caves you also helped Andy to upgrade his ticket so he could join me on the Adventure Caving tour. After that we talked the entire way back to Sydney, and haven’t stopped since.
We know this is quite the long shot, but if there is any chance you will be in California in August we would be honoured if you would officiate our wedding. We both fondly remember how you helped us – it must have been fate that made both of us book that tour, but we were lucky to have you as our tour guide.
Our sincerest thanks and best regards,
Lauren and Andy
Congratulations to Lauren and Andy! We passed this letter on to Henry and organised a wedding present for the happy couple – a beautiful piece of Aboriginal artwork is on its way to California with love from AAT Kings and Henry.
We spoke to Henry and asked him why he loves what he does;
“For many years I was self-employed, working as a metal manufacturer, which was ok, but something was calling me to change. Call it a mid-life crisis, a change of career, whatever, but my calling was to be a coach driver and guide.
I soon discovered why I love this job. I enjoy the experience of working with people, particularly when they are on holidays. They are keen to learn, discover, interact and I love passing on the knowledge I have learned on this short but fulfilling journey in life.
Ultimately it’s the interaction with people I love.”
Awwww Henry, you’re our very own cupid!
