June and July in Melbourne are cold! It was great to break away from the temperatures where going outside is no fun and experience a three day escape and adventure to the very Top End of Australia! Darwin, Litchfield National Park and Kakadu National Park was amazing, partially because the average temperature 30C!
I did 3 AAT Kings tours and would highly recommend all of them! On the morning of Day 1, I experienced the Darwin City Tour. You manage to get the vibe of the city in a very short time. The place has a lot of military history, and this was evident with a visit to East Point Military Precinct. If you ever get to Darwin, I would suggest a visit to the Museum and Art Gallery. The exhibit on Cyclone Tracey is well worth it.

Holy jumping Crocodiles! In the afternoon of Day 1, we took an AAT Kings ‘Aussie Adventures’ Tour to the Adelaide River. This tour included a very informative river cruise where we experienced the surprisingly agile crocs leaping from the murky depths in attempt to capture the meat on offer.
Smile! Those are some pearly whites on that croc!
Day 2 was the day of the waterfalls in Litchfield National Park. I had seen a few photos of the waterfalls but they did not do justice to what we saw under the vibrant blue skies of the NT. Florence Falls, Wangi Falls and Tolmer Falls. Spectacular and refreshing. Yes , in the 32 degree warmth of the North, we were able to go for a swim!

Day 3 was a long, but very memorable day to explore the magnificent Kakadu National Park. The highlight was a cruise on the Yellow Water Billabong. Peaceful, tranquil and untouched by man, the billabong is home to 280 bird species. We saw Jabiru’s and a magnificent white breasted sea eagle. Throw in 1,700 varieties of plants, 53 varieties of fresh water fish and of course salt water crocodiles and you get the feeling you are floating through an area of the planet which demonstrates nature at its best.
The Day Tours which are thoughtfully planned by AAT Kings are a great way to experience the best of the Top End. The transport is new and comfortable .The passionate Tour Guides have a great knowledge of the Aboriginal history and culture of the area and are informative and entertaining. Nothing is too much trouble and everything is done for you, from lunch through to the pickup and drop off at your hotel. You don’t have to think or do anything, so that you can sit back and enjoy the diversity and magic of an area of Australia with we affectionately call “The Top End.”
